ISLAND BAY BEACH
SUPERVISION AND AMENDMENTS
In response to representations from the Island Bay Municipal Electors' Association a subrcommittee of the Baths, Libraries, and Beaches Committee of the City Council visited the Bay recently, and subsequently made the following recommendations :—
, Be closer supervision of tfye beach-: That the City Engineer be instructed to arrange for his employees in the district to visit the beach as much as possible and ace that it is kept a& clean as possible, and to keep a strict watch out for broken bottles, glass, etc.; also .that notices be erected on the beach threatening with prosecution any person found throwing bottles, glass, or depositing rubbish of any .description in the waters of the Bay or on or about the beach. Be washing on beach : That the Electors' Association be informed that the portion of the beaeb upon which washing is hung out to dry is not controlled by the council., .
Be landing place fishermen's nets and boats : That the City Engineer be instructed to prepare a scheme for the construction of a fishing landing place at the area known as "Fishermen's Creek," for the constructipn of a slipway for storing the fishermen's boats and generally for the reservation of an area for the purpose of establishing the fishing industry on a commercial basis, and also frame such regulations for the control of the landing space, slipway, and area when constructed or set apart, and generally for the purpose of confining the fishing trade to the special area. This report will require to be presented -after collaboration with the offi* cers of the Public Works Department. That if the fishermen use the beach for a "drag," when the operation is completed their boats and nets must be placed in the special area. . Additional women's bathing accommodation : That the Electors' Association be informed that it is understood that the question of providing additional bathing accommodation on the beach for women heed not now be considered.
The recommendations were approved by the City Council last night.
