From that port the vessel is due at Wellington on Saturday next, when she will go on the Patent Slip for cleaning and painting. On Monday the Alexander will leave Wellington for Nelson and the West Coast GISBORNE HARBOUR ; Tho Gisborne Harbour Board recently discussed the question of the silting up of the *n-' trance to Gisborne harbour. It was stated that there was now only 7ft at the end of the breakwater extension where there used to be 14ft, that there was but 4ft at the end of the groyne, and that it was shoaling JOOft beyond the extension. 'In viev^ of the fact that the board ■was spending £1000 per month in dredging, the matter was considered very serious, as it was possible that if conditions did not improve, some . coal steamers would not make their usual calls at the port , ' lOGS RECOVERED Some time ago it was mentioned that anumber of logs, while being towed near Auckland, had broken adrift, and that they constituted a menace to shipping in the vicinity. Advice- has been received that all the logs have been recovered with the exception of ten, and these are accounted f0r.... Some of the logs came aahore on the, Great Barrier, but the majority were lound floating near the place where they were lost.. The remainder, which are on the little Barrier, will be recovered later The Mararoa is to go into dock at Lyttelton for cleaning and painting on next Monday week, and will sail as usual for Wellington in th«
