Mr. R. A. Wright, M ; P.,'in, tha House, of Representatives' yesterday read a paragraph from a, recent .despatch, from. Mr. Malcolm Ross in reference to the gallantry shown at Messines by a Wellington officer ', and ' asked the Minister of Defence (Sir James Allen) to give-the name of the officer. Sir James replied : "I am very glad to be able to say that the reference is to Lieut. Kric Reeves, son of a member of the staff of the Evening Post. And I wish to say, for the benefit of those who have been attacking young officers, that this is a young officer who was only about 20 years of age when he left New Zealand. When the coramaading officer and the other officers of his company were put out of action this young man took command, and did .so well that ho won the Military Cross." A lecture on "University College 1 Lifo in America" will bo given tfcr* evening in 1 the Victoria College Gymnasium by Pro- : fessor Clark, "M.S., Ph.D., lato of Harvard University, who was recently appointed Professor of Physics at Victoria College.
