STRANDING OF OPOURI
HULL INSURED IN SYDNEY.

CHRISTCHURCH, 4th Sept.
The steamer Opouri, which is aground at Greymouth, is- usually loaded with timber' from Greymouth to Lyttelton, returning to the coast with general merchandise. Captain E. A. Cox is in charge of the Opouri, the chief officer is T. Naysmith, the second officer J. M'Kenzie, and she carries a crew of thirteen. . The hull is insured with the Batavia. Insurance Company, Sydney. Two directors of the company and Captain Colona, Lloyd's representative, left by motor-car at noon to-day for Greymouth, GREYMOUTH, This Day. At the Opouri, since 6 o'clock- this morning, the Harbour Board staff, with the aid of a locomotive, has been hauling the vessel towards the shore. The object is to reach a sandy beach. Considerable progress was made, and it is hoped to get the vessel clear of the rocks to-day. The covers of the main hatches were .washed off last night, and it is feared that the perishable cargo has been destroyed.
