Sir,—l crave ptsriuission to reply to Mr. Skid's letter, u,=id the ha-crowing picture h» paints o£ the trouhlt: likely to follow calling any more plumbers to th& colours. I will ask him if he can tell me :—(1) Are master plumbers tekiug off their coats aud helping during the present shortage? (2) Is there not a largo portion of this work that could be done by any intelligent unskilled workman? (3) Did he read in to-night's paper that soon there will be none (or small) material, arriving, in this country, through dearth of shipping; and last, but not least, is the success or failure of the war loan of less importance than calling more plumbers to the colours?—l am, etc.,
