HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
The House met.at 2.30 p.m. A further batch of petitions was presented, praying that measures be taken to reduce the cost of living. Mr. Isitt presented a petition in favour of closing liquor bars between 6 p.m. and 8 a.m.
In answer to Mr.'Poland, the Minister of Finance said that at all the four centres bureaux were being established for furnishing information in regard to the loan. Last night the laying of the cable between the North and South Islands had been completed, thus linking up with the Eastern Telegraph Extension Company, and thus saving the country about £14,000. He added, in reply to another question, that the Public Trust Office is investing £200,000 or £250,000 in the patriotic loan.
In answer to Mr. W. 11. Field, the Hon. G. W. Russell said there was no proposal before the Government for the nationalisation of the national patriot-la funds.
