CHILDREN AT LIGHTHOUSES

The position regarding the education of children in lighthouses was again before the Wellington Education Board to-day, when another letter, considered quite unsatisfactory, 'was received from the Department. At present the Department allows £6 per head for the education of each child, whereas the board thinks that the grant should be £50 per annum, irrespective of the number of children. To this suggestion the Department replied that it could not differentiate between lighthouse schools and schools conducted in isolated places. On the suggestion of Mr. E. P; Bish worth,, tho board decided to go "right to the fountain head" by arranging for a deputation to wait upon the Minister.
