ENLISTING UNDER AGE
A WARNING TO YOUTHS.
(BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
PALMERSTON NORTH, This Day.
A youth was charged at the Magistrate's Court this morning with giving his wrong age in order to enlist. He was convicted, but no fine was imposed. Major M'Donnell said that a number of similar cases had cost the Government a lot of money through, parents asking for the release of their sons, some of the young men having got as far as England. No fine was asked for, but the Department wanted the present case to be a lessen to young men tempted to enlist under military age.
