APPEAL THROUGH THE SCHOOLS
It was mentioned on.Saturday that the Minister of Finance had uddressed an appeal to the headmasters of schools. The full text of the letter is as follows :— "You have been entrusted with one of the most important duties devolving upon the nation —the education of our boys and girls. Your influence upon them is incalculable, an everpresent one in their young lives, an indirect one upon their elders, and a
lasting one upon that of our nation. In the present state of our^ civilisation money is necessary to the carrying-on of any great enterprise..' It is necessary, in order to carry to-a successful conclusion the presenf wai'..for.the.continued existence, of free; nations.; '.The children under your care, if the matter is lucidly explained -to ..them-.by you, will discuss it ,in their homes.. .Many of them can invest 13s or 16s •in a War Loan Certificate; all can induce their parents to make a small or large investment. It is the duty of all to maintain the efficiency -of our 'Army. It is the.duty 'of. all to impress others with the necessity of subscribing according to their means in tho War Loan. May I ask you to use your undoubted influence upon and through the children to make this loan a success? The effort must be vigorous,
united, and prompt. The victory must be ours. lam relying upon tho active assistance of every teacher in the Dominion, and I feel that my confidence will not be in vain."
