CAUSES OF WAR
At the monthly meeting of the Brooklyn Men's Own, held yesterday- aftei--noon in the Brooklyn .Baptist Church, the subject for discussion was "The Moral Equivalent of War."- In his opening paper, Mr. E. Thomas traced tire causes of wars to secret, diplomacy and exploitation in- finance. Ware would continue as long as individuals, or groups of individuals, were allowed to exploit the finances and products of the nations, and diplomats make secret treaties to further such financial exploitation. The speaker held that all munition, and armament factories should be nationalised. In short, the only euro peace footing would be the democratisation - of all nations. An interesting-discussion foL. lowed, in which the general. view expressed was' that the rank and file in all nations were made the pawns in the big game of war in the interest^ of financial corporations. The Chairman (Rev. W. 5.," Boilings); while agreeing generally with the view expressed, f#id he was convinced beyond a doubt that in the present great cataclysm Britain and her Allies were fighting for moral ideals, and if Britain had not come into the war there might have been a Pax Germanica. a-ifd the world.kept in snbjection by the German sword... He saw hopeful signs of a lasting peace in the establishment' and growth of the Church Peacs Unions, which would influence political magnates of all nations to consider national questions in the light of Christian ideals, and open.the way for the great ideal—the brotherhood of man.
