FIGHTING AT MANY POINTS
SLIGHT GAINS AT LENS

LONDON, 25th August.
Sir Douglas Haig reports : Fresh enemy troops counter-attacked the positions we captured on Wednesday in the neighbourhood of the Ypres-Memn road. Repeated assaults forced back our advanced troops. Fierce fighting at Inverness Copse and Glencorse Wood continues. Our artillery dispersed thg German concentrations in this ,area. _ The enemy's losses were heavy. We advanced slightly south-oast of St. Julien. ' We captured a length of German trench westward of Lens, and an enemy post in the neighbourhood of Lombaertzyde, securing prisoners. Our artillery is active. A report states : The enemy heavily bombarded our positions south-east of Epehy, and attacked Gillemont Farm on both flanks. We recaptured portion of the trenches north-east of the farm. We are still in possession of the farm. We have advanced our line slightly north-east of Lens.

LONDON, 26th'August. Sir Douglas Haig reports : We drove out the enemy from portion of the trench north-east of Gillemont Farm which he regained yesterday, completely re-establishing our position. An enemy counter-attack failed. The Portuguese repulsed raiders south-east of Laventie.
