REPRESENTATIVE GIRLS ON TRIAL.
Some first-class hockey was witnessed at Karori Park on Saturday afternoon, when a trial frame was played between the A and 13 representatives, with a view to selecting a team to uphold Wellington's prestige in a series of interprovincial games at Wellington on sth, 6th, and Bth September. Manawatu and Canterbury will take part in the games, and it is not unlikely that Wairarapa will also be seen out.
From the outset, the trial game was brimful of interest, and it was not long before a determined rush ended in Miss Grant scoring for the A team. The A forwards played with commendable dash, and very shortly Misses S. M'Kenzie and Geddis brought the score up to three. Then B's commenced to assert themselves, and some pretty combined work by Misses S. Simons and Hayes ended in the former scoring. B's kept up the attack in determined fashion, and again Misses Simons and Hayes, were conspicuous.. Ttie result was that Miss Simons cleverly received a centre from Miss Hayes, and scored. In the second spell, Miss Williams brought the tally of the A team up to four, while Miss Marchbanks succeeded in again scoring for B's. A's thus won by the narrowest of margins. ■ Mr. A. M. Manning refereed.
