CHRISTCHURCH MEAT PRICES

Members of the Board of Trade will leave for Christchurch to-nigKt, to resume consideration of the retail meat price question. They will confer with tho Cefcy Council, the meat companies, and the retail butchers, regarding 'the proposal to supply meat to retailers from Government stores at Imperial prices.

The City Council has suggested the establishment of a municipal shop, but whether this proposal is proceeded with depends upon the effect- produced by the measures now contemplated. Up to a recent date Christchirrch retail prices were regarded as reasonable, but there have lately been advances, and butchers have stated that they cannot maintain even the present prices. When the proposal to supply Imperial meat was dincussed the butchers were almost unanimously in favour of it, and not opposed to it, as stated in to-day's message from Christchnrch. \
