STOCKS OF BEER
A QUESTION IN PARLIAMENT.
In the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon Mr.'R. A. Wright gave notice to ask the Minister of Finance : —
(1) \V!hat was the quantity of beer held in stock by brewers of the Dominion when the 1915 Finance Act came into force ? .
(£) Wlia.t rate of excise duty was paid on the beer thus held in stock, 3d or •sjjd per gallon? (3) If the old rate (3d per gallon) was accepted was the duty paid immediately the Act came into force, or was there an extension of time given tol the brewers, if so, how long was it and why was it allowed ? (4) If 3d per gallon was accepted during that extended time, was there any rebate on that amount, if so, how much, and why was the rebate made? (5) Has any rebate in the excise -duty been allowed to the brewers since the passing of the Finance Act of 1915, if so, how much ?
(6) What was the quantity of beer held in stock by the brewers of the Dominion wtien '.he excise duty was charged on Ist August, 1917, and what amount of duty will be charged on the beer thus held in stock? If the new rate, when will the extra amount be collected ? ■
(7) Will there be any rebate under the amended tariff, if so, what will be the percentage, and on what basis will the calculation be made ?
(8) Do brewers receive any concession in price *f sugar ? If so, how much is it, and why is it allowed ?
