ESTIMATES DISCUSSED
After the Budget debate was concluded last night the discussion in Committee on the Estimates was commenced. On the " first item" (Legislative Departments) Mr. G. J. Anderson complained that the Government had not refunded all the butter-fat levy. He would like the Minister to indicate when he intended to refund, the farthing ■ a lb he had promised.
Mr. Pa.yne congratulated the Government on giving a. bonus to tihe Public servants, but complained that -the women who were charwomen, some of them without breadwinners, were not adequately paid. If there were any people who deserved a war bonus it was the people who were cleaning Parliament and other Government buildings.
Mr. J. M'Combs complained that prisoners were allowed to associate with each'other in spite of the fact that they were supposed to be undergoing reformative treatment.
The House adjourned at 12.40. a.m.
