BUDGET FURTHER REVIEWED
TAXATION AND KINDRED
SUBJECTS
SIR JOSEPH WARD'S REPLY
CONSCRIPTION OF WEALTH.
The debate on the Budget concluded ye3Wrday afternoon. When the formal business of the day had been concluded Mr. A. Walker (Dunedin North) carried on the discussion. Speaking of the National Government, he contended that there should be "a reshuffling of the Ministerial pack," which, he considered, would tend to greater efficiency. Regarding the amusement tax he thought it should be graduated in proportion to the cost of the ticket, but no tax should be put on a. ticket costing less than Is. .At a time like this the people should be encouraged to take some relief from the stress of the times., In his concluding remarks he urged that if the Ministerial portfolios were not changed there should be a General Election. To his mind, the people of New Zealand were far from satisfied with the administration of the Government. There was no reason why the Government should hang on to office unless it was satisfied that it had the country at its back.
