The Hon. John Barr continued the debate on tlhe Juries Act Amendment Bill (the second reading of which wa« moved by ite introducer, Hon. J. MacGregor, and which provides for a threequarters majority to be sufficient in criminal cases-in which the jury fails to agree). He expressed himself as being opposed to bare majority, but said he could not uphold the present system. The quorum necessary, however, could be made: the subject of another debate. For a considerable time he had been against the unanimous verdict. He deprecated any suggestion that the. jury system should be abolished.
