INCREASED PRICES OF MEAT

TRADES, COUNCIL PROTEST:

At the meeting of, the Trades and Labour Council last evening, the matter of increased prices far meat came up for consideration, and during the course of discussion delegates expressed themselves very strongly on the local situation. It was pointed out that on the admission of the Premier there are millions of carcases of meat in the Dominion, and that we are within measurable distance of the opening of another season when it is not certain that exporters will be able ,to send away the meat now in store, and yet the meat supply is to be allowed to go up another penny or so per pound. The Council passed the following motion :—"Seeing the price of meat.has been increased by about one penny per pound, the Government be called upon to open meat shops in Wellington, so that the people may get meat at a reasonable price."
