Mr. and Mrs. Stanley G. Hamerton, of -Boulcott-terrace, have been advised by cable that their son Claude is now an engineer sub-lieutenant in the British Navy, and is on a large vessel belonging to the Mediterranean Fleet. Sub-Lieuten-ant Hamerton, who is only 25 years of age, was bom in Wellington, and vasteducated at the Terrace School and at the Technical College here. He was afterwards apprenticed to Messrs. D. Robertson and Co., of the Phoeniat Foundry, and on obtaining his indentures he went Home to gain experience. For some years lie was in the service of the Atlantic Transport Line. 11l November last he passed his examination, for a. chief engineer's ticket, and recently he entered the Navy. Soon after the war broke out he enlisted in the Imperial Army, but the authorities deemed it advisable 'that marine engineers could batter serve the Enrpira afloat than on shore, and he thereupon returned to the sea.
