PUBLIC SERVICE WAR BONUS
TO IHE EDITOR. Sir,—ln regard to the Public Service war bonus, I would like to endorse the remarks already' made by "Cadet" and "Another Cadet:" , The, former especially set out-the position with- the greatest clearness, and scores can vouch for the truth of his contentions. Parliament has said much about the war bonus lately, but only one M.P., Mr. Anderson, of Mataura, thought of the position of cadets. All honour to him ! But one voice is hardly noticed in the clamour of Parliament, and no one followed his lead. An equitably-distributed war bonus would go far to settle matters, and I venture to propose a scheme of allotment which I think would satisfy most Public servants. Married men, receiving not more than £260 per year as salary:—No children, £6; one child, £7; two children, £9; three children, £11,; four children, £13 ; five children or more, £15.
Single men and girls-.—Receiving £80 or less, £7; £100 or less, £6; £120 or less, £5; £150 or less, £3. The amount to be payable in a Inmp sum, say, at the begriming- of .November. Provision might be made for extra bonuses, to. officers, jvith. dependents other than wives and children. The opinions of my fellow-officers of the Service on the above scheme might be of value. — I urn, etc.,
19.th,-August.
