NATIVE ASSOCIATION BAND'S CONCERT.
The concert given last night. by the Native Association Band at His Majesty's Theatre was an artistic success. The house was crowded with a most enthusiastic audience. The band played superbly under the baton of Lieut. T. Herd, and was a pronounced success in its rendering of the difficult selection, "Memories of Balfe," and a pretty euphonium solo, ''Rest," arranged by the conductor and played with nice tone and expression by Mr. J. D. Grant. The quickstep "Half and Half" (Morrison), a very intricate composition, and the brilliant march, "The Golden Gate" (Brown), were played with fine precision and good time. Mrs. C. Melvin (soprano), who was in good voice, sang most artistically "Carissima" (Perm), and was recalled. With Mr. C. Melvin she sang, in excellent style, the duet, "Watchman, What of the Night?" which'was encored. Miss Frieda Walter, violin soloist, played most charmingly Musin's intricate solo, ."Allegro Brilliante," and had to respond to an encore. Mr. G. Melvin, baritone, sang with good effect "The King's Own" (Yon Heur), and was ulso recalled. Mr. T. Pringle sang "How's My Boy?' 1 for which he was deservedly encored. The next concert under the auspices of the band I will no doubt be'awaited with interest.
On Saturday evening, at the Grand Opera House, the J. and N. Tait Musical Qomedy Company brought its Wellington season "to a close, when "The White Chrysanthemum" was played before a very large audience.
