SOCIAL PROBLEMS

Though the work'of the Women's Social Investigation League ■ during the first year of existence has been .largely, experimental, eteady progress. has been -made along the path of progress.,:' The small attendance at the annual meeting of the league last evening was not encouraging, but the tenor of the proceedings showed that the more earnest workers have entered into the spirit* of their work, which is the investigation of matters pertaining to the socia.l life of the community. The annual report, which has already been published, waa briefly referred to by the chairwoman (Miss Coad), who made special mention of the league's operation's in connection wfth educational reform, particularly as regards the differentiation in the training' of \ boys• and!girls m primary schools. Mention, was" also made of picture shows, Miss Coad stating that during the year members of the league had ."policed" the different picture shows and made separate reports to the Richmond Free Kindergarton Union. The fact, that the league had a small, balance in- hand on the year's working was favourably commented upon by members. The election of officers resulted.as follows : —President, Mrs. A. R. Atkinson ; vice-presidents, Mrs. Hunter and Miss England ; chairwoman, Miss M. Nicholls; vice-chairwoman, Miss Coad; joint lion, secretaries, Misses Crobfo and Hursthouse ;'traaiinrflr.
