Distinguished Service Orders have been awarded to the following New Zealanders:—
Colonel R. C. Allen.; A* a critical moment, at .great personal risk, ho rallied a number of men of another unit who were withdrawing under barrage fire, and preventad a further retiremeniL Although severely ■wounded,, he continued to give instructions for the continuance of the fight. Major A. Digby Smith : Although severely wounded Mid gassed, he Joil his company to its objective, and remained until the situation was secure.
Major R. D. Hardie: After being wounded in the eye, ho led his men through. a heavy 'barrage to their positions, and continued with great skill and courage to di/ect the gun-fire, and remained throughout the action. Colonel D. J. M'Gavin: At. great risk he successfully evacuated 1 the wounded during our heavy offensive. Captain J. A. Sommerville: For fine leadership in an attack and the capture of two field guns. Colonel A. Win-tervans: For greait coolness and energy in consolidating the capture of a position. A bar to the Military Cross was awarded to Captain P. G. Pa-rkes, for establishing strong posts on. his unprotected flank, and saving advanced waves from being cat off.
