NATIONAL EFFICIENCY BOARD

RESIGNS OFFICE.

The members of the National Efficiency Board have sent in their resignations. They consist of Messrs. W. Ferguson (chairman), T. Moss, J. H. Gunson, W. D. Hunt, and J. A. Frostick. The matter has not yet been dealt with by Cabinet.

Speaking to a Post reporter this afternoon the chairman of the board (Mr. \V. Ferguson) said that no one was more surprised than he was to read the statement that the board had resigned. If the Government chose to make any statement on the subject it could do so.

Further enquiries elicit the suggestion that there is a considerable amount of feeding on the part of the- board that ita representations and reports have not mot with more consideration from the Government ; and there is also a suggestion from the Government point of view that the board has gone past its "order of reference " in laying down lines of policy. The whole trouble appears to be that the Government and the board have fallen out because the board considered that it, was part of its function to suggest policy; and the Government (or a section of it) considers that it is no part of the board's work to do anything of the sort. It is interesting to note, however, that the board held its usual sitting this morning, and is "carrying on" as usual.
