SWISS NEUTRALITY

PREJUDICED BY PRESS COM-

MENTS.

(AUSTRAUAN-NEVr ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) WASHINGTON, 14th August.

The Stato Department announces that the police at Berne, Switzerland, raided the offices of the newspaper Freie Zeitung because it endorsed the attitude of President Wilson regarding the war. If the Swiss Government defends the jroJice diplomatic complications are expected, as it is known that a number of Swiss newspapers are openly supporting Germany more strongly than the Freie Zeitung defends the Allies and America. If the Swiss Government gives a free hand for pro-German comments and suppresses pro-American views, Switzerland's neutrality will be in question.
