RIOTS IN AMSTERDAM
DUTCH FOOD SHORTAGE
CROWDS CHARGED BY ARMED FORCES.
(Received July 6, 2.30 p.m.) AMSTERDAM, 4th July. The latest potato rioting in the city' has been most serious. Crowds pillaged the shops in the market area. The police charged with revolvers and the military fired, and four people were killed and nineteen wounded. A public meeting of protest followed and decided on a twentyfotir hours' strike. A procession was formed, and the police, who repeatedly charged, were storied and failed to disperse the crowd. (PUBLISHED !N THE. TIMES.) (Received July 6, 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, sth July. ' The Amsterdam riots continue on a large scale. German' agents are fomenting anti-British feeling. The transport workers have struck in protest against the Government's exporkpolicy.
