A Frencli communique states: After the bombardment mentioned this afternoon, the Germans attacked our position on a front of 1000 yards with large forces, and succeeded in; gaining a footing in part of the first line trench east of Vauxaillon. Another attempt, south of Filain, on a salient on our; line eastwards of Rozere Farm, ivas without -result. The; artillery duel is lively between Hurtebise and Chevreux and on ;' the Verdun front, on the sectors of Vacherauville and Les Chambrettes.
