They hooted, shouted, and abused him. After he arrived at Lugano, Cohstantine went for a walk. He. was recognised, pursued; and surrounded, hooted, stoned at, _ arid abused. ■ Finally he took refuge in a house for half an hour, and regained his hotel under strong police protection. The. crowd .made noisy demonstrations outside the hotel till a late hour.
