UNIVERSITY SENATE
HON. J. A.-HANAN ACCEPTS, A SEAT. ;
At the request of Cabinet, and finding that there is a general concensus of opinion among educationists in favour of such a step, the Hon. J. A. Hanan (Minister of Education) has accepted appointment to the seat on the University Senate rendered vacant by the death o£ Mr. Gordqn (Chief Inspector of Mines). Speaking to a Post reporter on the subject, the Minister said that, while he recognised the' necessity for and was endeavouring to bring about reforms in connection with primary and secondary education') they must always bear in mind the possibility and resultant need for reform at the top, fitting in with the reforms' that were being made in the other branches. "Education," he said, "is a unity, a whole, and there is room for work to be done to link up and coordinate the different branches of. education." Hence he considered it necessary that the Minister of Education, who was responsible for the policy of education, should be in as close touch as possible with alt educational bodies."
