STUBBORN EFFORT IN THE

The fighting began at 2 o'clock in tha morning yesterday, and was prolonged until to-day; and the attacks were broken by fire and with the bayonet. The enemy waves of aesault were thrown back iii disorder with heavy, loss; but north-east of Mont Haut small parties of the enemy were successful ■in securing' some advanced elements..
