ANZAC CLUB

A SATISFACTORY YEAR

It is now just over a year since the Wairarapa Anzac Club was established at Featherston, and the chairman (Mr. W. E. Bid will) has issued the first an. nual report of th* institution. Mr. Bidwill States that the club, since it was opened, has been much appreciated by the soldiers, their wives, and friends, and has proved a perfect boon, to them, being well spoken of throughout New Zealand, and this Has been brought about to a great extent by the untiring efforts of the ladies' committee, which is giving two dances, and two socials monthly for the amusement of the soldiers. This entails a- large amount of attention and hard work, but the ladies are devoted to their duties.

The report adds that the club itself has proved well-suited for its requirements, and is now fully completed and equipped in every way, and no other large expenses need be incurred. The building is well lighted with electricity, and is heated throughout with, hot-water pipes. The furnishing of the building has cost a good sum, but the committee considered that as the club was erected solely for the comfort, and . convenience of the soldiers in camp, a little extra expense was warranted in malting it as comfortable as possible.. The club has been assisted very largely by contributions from outside donors, by gifts of pictures, billiard tables, etc. The finances of the club are in a very satisfactory condition. After all-payments for the year, viz., £10.514 15s 7d, there is a balance to credit of the General Account of £706 14s 8d; adding to this the outstanding subscriptions of subscribers who have yet to be elected, the balance will be £90G 14s 8d to credit, out of which the amount of £98 4s 3d is due, leaving a net balance on hand of £808 10s sd.

The following officers for the ensuing year have been elected :—Patron, Colonel N. P Adams; trustees, Sir "Walter Buchanan, Messrs. J. 0. Bidwill, and Alfred Matthews; committee, Messrs. W. E. Bidwill, W. Barton, H. H. Beetham, W\ Howard Booth, Q. Donald. M. Elgar. W. Hume, W. J. Martin, A. D. M'Leod, Hush Morrison (Masterton), E. V. Riddiford, D. C. Collins, J. W. Card, Arch. Clark, A.
