FRENCH OPERATIONS
MUCH DAMAGE DONE BY AIRCRAFT (ADSTBALIAN-NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION AND REUTER.) LONDON. 28th May. A French official report states: Three more attacks by the enemy on the Casque-Teton front in the Champagne were completely repulsed. The German artillery has been fairly lively at Mort Homme, on the left bank of the Meuse. A French detachment penetrated the enemy second line, in the region of Uffholtz, in Alsace. Our aerial squadrons inflicted much military damage, especially on the enemy's establishments 1 in the Champagne, and in, the region of Thionville we brought down sixteen of the enemy's machines. The New Zealand High Commissioner reports: — LONDON, 29th May, 2.25 p:m. A French official message states: —Yesterday evening a violent bombardment on Hurtebise preceded two German attacks, which were thrown back by our fire. Our positions were maintained yesterday, and twelve German aeroplanes were brought down seriously damaged. / GERMAN REPORT ( AUSTRALIAN-NEW ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION AND RETJTEB.) LONDON, 28th May. A German official report states-: We repulsed the English westward of IWytschaete. Stubborn fighting occurred between Cherisy and Bullecourt, where the British failed in frequently repeated attacks. We captured the Poehlberg and Keilberg trenches, southwards of Moronvillers (in the Champagne), and recaptured a post south-east of Nauroy. Last Friday we brought down twelve aeroplanes and two balloons. / '' ■
