A very generous offer has been made to the Meteorological Office by an Auckland gentleman (Mr. F. W. Birch) of a Negretti and Zambra standard barometer. The instrument has a Kew certificate accompanying it. Standard meteorological instruments are very difficult to obtain just now; in fact, are practically unprocurable, and the offer is thus particularly acceptable. The barometer, which is brand new, is worth about ten guineas. In the official result of the City Council elections, published yesterday, the name of Charles William Chilman (4450 votes) was omitted.
