WOMEN'DIRECTORS OF FOOD

LONDON, 13th March. Mrs. W. Pember Beeves and Mrs. C. S. Peel have been appointed by Lord Devonport directors of Women's Service of the Ministry of Food. Their duties'will be to direct the propaganda dealing with the practical issues arising out of the appeal tor voluntary rationing. Since the creation of the Ministry of Food, Mrs. Beeves has assisted Lord :, Devonport in the work of the Department. These appointments have been welcomed on the ground that both ladifca lire experts, and that it is not the intention, at present sit any rate, to put, into force a scheme of compulsory rationing. The new campaign, it is stated, will take .tho form chiefly of . meetings tliroughout the country and of the distribution of literature to people of u)l classes. Efforts will be made to get into touch'with all organisations willing to help in the propaganda. For some years Mrs. .Reeves ins been regarded as an authority on working-' ul.-isa budgets, and her sociological book, "Bound about a Pound a Week" was the result of an investigation extending; over five veay*.
