GOD AND SUBMARINES.
The German Socialist paper Vbrwarts quotes a speech made by Dr. Roesicke, chairman of the Farmers' Union, at a meeting of the Schleswig-Holstein branch. According to Dr. Eoesicke, says the Vorwarts, God . Himself is a PanGerman. Speaking on' the ''submarine question, Dr. Eoesicke said :■—" The Dear God hais given us a sign. With His finger He has made the world-harvest so bad that Elngland has a difficulty in feeding herself. But if we leave to England the opportunity , to bring ships filled xvith wheat from Australia, India, etc., without interference by us, it ia doubtful whether the Dear God woaild give us such- another opportunity, for He wishes us to grasp the hand He extends. I hope our Imperial Govern--went will, grasp this hand, that it. understands how to grasp it." On this pronouncement, the comment of the Vorwarts is : " So the Dear God demands a ruthless submarine war. Then every objection is excluded- Are the circles around Dr. Roesickej who so gladly proclaims his firm faith' in: God, really unaware of the frightful blasphemy of these words?"
