THE FRENCH SECTORS
GERMAN ATTACKS DEFEATED
LONDON, 26th April. A French official communique to-day states : Artillery fighting has been continued all along our front north of Vauxaillon (north of Soissons). The Germans were defeated with sanguinary slaughter in an attempt against Hurtebise' Farm, which was slopped by our fire They renewed the assault, but a vigorous counter-attack threw them back on their own lines. During the action our artillery caught and dispersed large German concentrations, of troops in tho region north of the plateau of Vauclerc. The High Commissioner reports :— LONDON, 26th April, 3.15 p.m. French. Official. —Yesterday, after a violent bombardment, the enemy twice launched, without success, on a front of about two kilometres westwards of Cerny, powerful attacks, which broke down on our lines with heavy losses. Another attempt in the region of Hurtebiso Farm was also unsuccessful. ARTILLERY DUELS ON BELGIAN FRONT LONDON, 25th April. A Belgian official communique states : Artillery duels have been reaumed at different points of the line, especially near Dixmude.
