RUGBY FOOTBALL
The Rugby season will be opened.on Saturday, when the annual scven-a-side tournament will be played at' • ths Athletic Park. The competitions' are between players o£ tho first and fifth grades, in each of which there are sixteen teams, making a total'of fifteen matches to be played in each class before tho winner is .known. To get, through this total of thirty matches dijpng the afternoon a start will be made at 1.15, and the. final of the first "grade-is-timed to finish at 5 o'clock—a total of close on four hours' play,: which should be satisfying to tho most ardent follower of iho game. "In these competitions and the usual cup fixtures, which commence on the 12th May, no piayer of military age' -will be permitted .to _ take part. The . attention of referees is directed to. to-morrow's games, and tho union committee requests aa many as possible to attend at 1.15 to refereo; the large number of matches sot down for deeison.
