WELLINGTON GAS COMPANY, LIMITED. NOTICE TO GAS CONSUMERS '. GENERALLY. IN view of the present scarcity of Coal, and the consequent, effect on the supply of Gae lor domestic and industrial purposes, the Directors of the Gas Company desire to earnestly appeal to Gas .Consumers to exercise every possible economy in the use of Gas. • Every effort has been made by the Company to secure sufficient coal to meet the present emergency, but no further supplies are now available, and the Company is solely dependent upon the stock in hand to maintain the gas supply of the City and Suburbs. At the normal rate of consumption the gas supply can only bo maintained for about a month. The Directors therefore invito tho cordial assistance of all consumers, in their own interest, in endeavouring to restrict unnecessary consumption, in order that tho supply may be continued as long as possible. Gas is largely used for lighting, cooking, heating, and power purposes, and it is suggested that eoonomy in all these directions cart be ma.de: — IN LIGHTING: By dispensing with all lighting of shop windows, inside and outside. By extinguishing all pilot lights and lights in halls and passages and other places where lighting is not absolutely required; and By reducing tho number of rooms in use in the evening, and using as few lights as possible. IN -COOKING: By the more economical use of gae cookers. This can easily be eKecied by cooking the maximum number of dishes at one time . It' should' be' remembered that it only requires as much gras to cook an oven full as an ovea half full, and a further'saving can be made by turning tho gas down beforo ■ th© cooking is finished, and by turning the gee oB immediately the opoking is completed. IN HOT WATER FOR BATHS: By usinpj the minimum quantity of water required. The Company confidently anticipates that the above suggestions will meet with the hearty approval and practical cooperation of every gee consumer, in the hope that tho present crisis may be speedily terminated and normal conditions restored.
