THE FRENCH LINE
OFFICIAL REPORT.
(Received April 17, 2 p.m.) . LONDON, 16th April. A French communique states : We 'continued our'destructive fire on German organisations between St. Quentin and the Oise. The enemy lively replied in the region south of St. Quentin. We continued to progress eastward and gouth of the Oise. On the plateau between Barisis and Quincy Basse we occupied a fresh enemy point d'appui. ' The artillery duel was violent at night on the whole front, including the Sois-aohs-Heims front.
After a violent artillery preparation our detachments penetrated the enemy lines at several points in Lorraine and Alsace. Our detachments reached the enemy's second line at six point* on the plain of Alsace, and inflicted serious losses.
