"GREATER WELLINGTON" CANDIDATES
. Members of the Greater Wellington iTown-planning. and Municipal Electors' 'Association^' "ticket" held, a meeting .at Lyall Bay last evening., Mr. P. Easson presided, and; the attendance was small. The first speaker was Councillor George Frost, -who dwelt somewhat on the city reserves. Some £10,000 had been spent on reserves, and if he had his way another £10,000 would be spent. The 'Zoo, once ridiculed, wa&i now acknowledged to be one of the, best assets of the city. Mr. J. B. Norwood stated that at the present period,, when the expenditure of large sums was out of the question, it was essential that men 'who could be trusted should be elected. He urged an improvement of the tram service when possible, and the" abolition of slums. Councillor It. A. Wright complained of the unjust criticism" of the present councillors by the Labour candidates. .Councillors did not make anything out of their positions, except a tram-pass. Many difficulties had been met with in connection with the fish and milk questions, and charges of negligence and-wickedness were not justified. The farmers wanted a milk-clearing house to cast £30,000. Was there any chance of the ratepayers sanctioning such an expenditure? Councillor W. H. Bennett gave an account of his work, and said he was totally against large expenditure on permanent works out of revenue instead of loan money. The last speaker was Mr. J. 0. Shorland, who spoke on the subjects of milk, fish, and water. The candidates answered several questions before the meeting terminated.'
