THE AUSTRALIAN FORCES
ADMINISTRATION CHANGES.
It has been announced by the> Australian Minister for Defence, Mr*. ,G. P. Pearce, that Brigadier-General R. MC. Anderson, commandant of A.LF., Headquarters, London, was returning to Australia, and that, although no definite position had been allotted to him, his services would be utilised here in some ca-' 'parity Lieut.-Col. T. Griffiths, formerly Secretary, to the Military Board, .Central Administration, and now adjutantgeneral to Sir William Birdwood, will fill the position of commandant at Heaqnarters in London.
Speaking of Brigadier-General Anderson s work, Mr. Pearce said ■ that the principal duties onj which he was engaged were organising tho business Bide of the London headquarters administration and laying down the basis for tho adjustment of' claims between the War Office and Australia. This was very important work, as these claims amount to many millions of pounds. BrigadierGeneral Anderson had successfully negotiated with the Wai 1 Office, and-as a reresult tho Prime Minister, Mr. Hughes, had recently been aWe to state in the House of Representatives the amount of Australia's' liability. Ho understood that Australia was the only Dominion that' was in the satisfactory position of knowing where it stood in regard bo liabilities. It was satisfactory to have that adjustment made before the war ended, because our experience of the South African War showed that it was impossible, to do it afterwards, when officers >of various grades had returned to their civil em-• ployment.
