The finances of the Wellington Returned Soldiers' Association, as disclosed by the balance-sheet tq be presented at the annual meeting this evening, show a, very satisfactory position. The accumulated fund totals £58 11s 6d. The cash in hand and in bank totals £69 7s Id, and against this amount are payments due to sundry creditors totalling" £23 6s Bd, which leaves an actual cash balance of : £45 10s sd, and the other assets, totalling £13 Is Id, added to this amount constitute the accumulated fund of £58 11s ; 6d, ' "We should cherish moat highly our State school system in New Zealand, which /is often much criticised," said Mr. W. L. Foster, at the Petone School on Saturday. The system should be judged by its results, and the best and finest test —an infallible test—-was being exercised at the present time in the way our men had laid, and were laying, down their lives for the sake of their ideals in Egypt, Gallipoli, and France.
