VICE-REGAL.
The Governor and tho Countess of Liverpool, who are in residence in Auckland, will on Wednesday of next week, 25th April, attend the Anzac Day service at the Town Hall, Auckland, and in the evening His Excellency will be present at the smoke concert to bo given in commemoration of" the day. On Thursday, 26th April, at 3 p.m., His Excellency will unveil the veterans' memorial at tho Waikaraka cemetery, 'and at 4 p.m. on the same day will unveil two portraits of the King and Queen, at the Soldievs' Club. At 8.30 p.m. he will open the garrison officers' new- club in Queen-street.
The Hon. G. W. Russell returned to Wellington from Auckland this afternoon.
Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P., left for Momnsville last night.
Sir Robert Stout, and Sir John Denniston returned to Wellington from' the South yesterday. : ,

Mr. H. T. J. M'Elroy, Town Clerk of Northcote, Auckland, has been appointed clerk of 1 the Thames County Council.
Mr. J. B. Clarkson will be leaving New ■ Zealand shortly on a business trip to America, England, and France.
Messrs. Frank Goldberg and Robert Arlow have been elected members of the 'Wellington Chamber of Commerce. There are four candidateis for the Mayoralty of Timaru. The present Mayor, Mr. E. R. Guinness, is not standing.
The death occurred at Ashburton last week of Mr. Amos Dempster, son of Mr. George Dempster, of Otaki. Deceased was a dentiet, and highly popular.
Mr. W. W. Snodgrass . has consented to be nominated for the Mayoralty of Nelson.: Mr. W. Lock, a former Mayor, is the only other caedidate lor the office so far.-
Mr. J. A. Thompson, LL.B., formerly clerk of the Magistrate's Court at Christchiirch, has been admitted by his Honour Mr. Justice Chapman as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court.
Mr. Henry D. Adams, who for the past ten years has been in charge of the cloak-room ■ at the Opera House, died yesterday at his parents' residence in Willis-street.
The Rev. C. Mortimer Jones, vicar of St. Andrew's Church, Cambridge,' has received advice from the Anglican Bishop of Auckland that he is to be appointed chaplain to the 25th Reinforcements.
Mr. W. Bower Black, LL.B., Licentiate of the Presbyterian Church, has been appointed by the Wairarapa Presbytery as locum tenens for Rev. E. J. Tipler, 8.A,, of Carterton, who has gone into camp.
The death, occurred at the Buchanan Home, Oreytown, ok Friday fast, of Mr. B. Tooby, a. well-known ex-resident of Mastertbn. The deceased had resided in Masterton for 43 years,, and was 82 years of ag». r
Another of Wairarapa's fast ■diminishing pioneers, in the person of Mr: William Gray, of Gladstone, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 86 years. The deceased leaves a grown up family of five sons and two daughters.
Mr., James Park, of Westland, has been notified that his. son, Se'rgt. H. W. G.. Park, had been discharged from the New Zealand Expeditionary Force on 3rd April to take up a commission, in the Royal Navy Reserve.
Mr. J. M. Dale, LL.B.,' who has been nominated for tho Mayoralty of Onslow, is a member of the legal firm of Messrs. Atkinson and Dale. He is at present a councillor of the borough, and is opi posed to the proposed water supply from the Khandallah catchment area. A' Press Association message from Auckland states that Mr. Malcolm G. M'Gregor, barrister and solicitor, died, suddenly this morning. He 1 had a wide' experience in shipping law, and appeared in nearly every contested action of that nature. Mr. E. H. Nicholas, until recently organist at Pitt-street Methodist Church, Auckland, has so much' improved in health that he. has been able to accept tho position of,'organist and choirmaster at Wesley Church, Melbourne, the principal Methodist Church in Victoria. Mr. John Aston, of Karori-road, who had the misfortune to have his leg broken prior to the holidays, is progressing satisfactorily. Owing to the accident, Mr. Aston, who had arranged to go south, accompanied by Mrs. Aston and his youngest son, has had to postpone the trip. r The death took place in Nelson last week of Mr. Benjamin Thomas, nt the age of 69 years. Tho late Mr. Thomas was well-known in the Motueka, a&d Dovedale districts, having at one time been Home Missionary for the Methodist Church there. Latterly he had been a representative of tho A.M.P. Society in the Nelson district. Sergeant Mathieson, who is to succeed Sergeant O'Halloran at Lambtoa Police Station, was met by the members of the Dunedin Police Force last week and presented with a handsomelymounted umbrella, and also one for Mrs. Mathieson. In making the presentation, Sergeant Thompson referred to the high esteem in which Sergeant Mathieson is held. The Rev. T. G. Hammond, who has been appointed general superintendent of thft, Methodist Maori Missions, was farewefled at Hawera last week. The Mayor (Mr. E. Dixon) presented Mr. Hammond with an illuminated address, setting forth the value of his services to Taranaki and the esteem in which he was everywhere held, and a purse containing a cheque for £100. Mr. C. G. Sidford, agent for the A.M.P. Society in Nelson, has enlisted, and leaves at the end of the month to join the 29th Reinforcements. Mr. Sid- ! ford served in the South African War as a sergeant in the 6th Contingent, and j holds the . Queen's Medal with fivo clasps. He acted as secretary to the ■ Nelson Recruiting Association in tho campaign which resulted in 666 voluntary enlistments being received. Mr. N. Meuli, an old and respected member of the Wanganui Harbour Board, has been in indifferent health of late, and consequently is not seeking re-election on that body. A, motion to the effect that the board place on record appreciation of the able services rendered by Mr. Meuli, and that regret bo expressed that his health had prevented him from again taking his seat at the board meetings, was carried on Friday evening.
