The tourney which was commenced two months ago to decide the above .club's championship for 1917 is rapidly drawing, to a clqse. Mr. Welton improved his chances on Thursday evening by scoring a. win from Mr. Purchas, the present holder of the title. Mr. iWelton's tally is now five wins, no losses, and two more games to play, viz., against Messrs. tJ. P. Anderson and A. Clark. Mr. Anderson has lost one game, and Messrs. Purchas, Harper, A. Clark, and H. J. Thompson have each lost two games. The two leaders, Messrs. Welton and Anderson, are paired for next Thursday.. If the former is successful, no further play will be necessary, but if Mr. Anderson is successful the fight for the club championship will be very open.
