WELLINGTON ORPHANS
CLUB'S ANNUAL MEETING.
There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Wellington Orphans' 'Club, held on Saturday. The report and balance-sheet, which disclosed a sound position, were adopted.
In a brief address, the chairman, Orphan Hunt, characterised the 1916 session as the most successful in the history of the club. (Member^ were gratified to learn that not a single subscription remained unpaid. During the year the following distinguished guests were entertained:—His Excellency the Governor Lord Liverpool (the club's patron), his Honour Sir Robert Stout, the Right Hon. W. F. Massey,. Sir Joseph Ward, Hon. A. L. Herdman, officers of the Japanese warships, members of. the National Cabinet, and many other prominent citizens. Visits were also exchanged with the Wellington Savage Club. ■ ;
Office-bearers were elected as follows : —Patron, His Excellency the Governor, Lord. Liverpool; vice-patrons, Colonel R. J. Coljins and Hon. A. L. Herdman; president, Rev. Archibald Hunt; vice-presidents, Surgeon-General Henderson, D.. M'Laren, E. A Batt, W. C. Robinson, A. G. Wallace, and Matt Carr; committee,-F. A. Brownjohri, E. Cavell, G. Christie, ' H. Coo'ke, W. Goudie, H. Levy, H. D. M'Carthy, and Fraser-Thomson; hon. secretary, Herbert F.^Wood; hon. treasurer, William J. T. Wiggs; musical director, Henry Moschini; hon. accompanist, H. Godier ; hon. auditors, > Messrs. Carmen and M'Govern.
The opening night for 1917 was fixed for Saturday, 28th instant.
