TOWN HALL ORGAN RECITAL

i Fortune certainly favoured' the bravo j who faced the sweeping showers and afcj tended the City Organist's recital oa. i Saturday uveningj for the programme { proved exceptionally fine, the Cesar ; Franck number—the allegretto from the | Symphony, in B Minor—being alone quite worth the risk ot a. soaking. The org.mist's transcription of the symphony is wonderfully faithful. The delightful melodies for the harp, 'cor anglais, flutes, clarinet, violins, viola, 'cello, etc.,, which characterise the allegretto, all receive full justice, while the wonderful leggiero passages for the strings are beautifully brought out. As Mr. Paga was in excellent playing form, the move^ ment was intensely enjoyable. The programme opened with Boellmann.'s "Suit« Gothique," revived after a considerable interval, and heartily welcomed by the! audience. The next number was an air from an orchestral suite by Grieg (op. 40), and this was followed by a prelude (No. 3 of op. 16) by. Scriabine, which was played for the first time at these recitals, and, being one of the most charm^ ing morsels imaginaßle, was promptly redemanded. The Prelude and Fugue in D Major of Glazounov concluded the first part, and deepened the regret of those who had heard it before that ira composer should have, written no other works for the organ. The second part of the programme consisted of the Cesar Franck . number an 4 Faulkes's _fine "Rhapsodic" on the melody- "0 filii. efc filiae." „ ' ■ . ■..■■.'.'" As those who could attend on Saturday evening were necessarily few, Mr. Page might well consider the advisability of repeating the whole programme at the next recital on 21st April.
