CLAIM AGAINST CLAN LINE!
The action brought by Edward Richard Denham. and William Denham, and Digby Frank Denham, trading as Denham Brothers, merchants, and produce dealers, of Brisbane, against tho Clan Lino Steamers, Limited/to recover £1650 for loss alleged to have been sustained by the plaintiffs through the non-delivery of portion of a consignment of maizo, was concluded re-' cently. Tho action was brought before Mr. Justice Ferguson and a jury in No. 2 Court by Denham Brothers, merchants, of Brisbane to recover £1650 from tho Clan Line Steamers', Ltd., for breach of contract in respect of a .quantity of South African maize. The plaintiffs sued upon counts alleging non-delivery of the maize ox ships' slings, no <ieiiveny on tjie wharf, not carrying the maize to Brisbane, not sorting and_ stacking the maize properly, and conversion. The defendants pleaded that they did deliver the maize ex ships' slittgs, that they did not contracet to deliver the maize on the wharf, nor did they contract to take it to Brisbane ; that they did not contract to sort and stack the maize, and even if they did that they did it well; and they entered a plea of not guilty as to conversion. ■ The jury found for the plaintiffs for £1640, Art«olJKߣ«diaßS=3fi&iKftßk
