MAKARA COUNTY AFFAIRS
The Makara County Council, met yesterday under the chairmanship of Councillor J. H.; Haggerty. There were also present: Councillors .H. J. Monaghan, S. B. Mexted, S. Bryant, and S. Monk: An apology for absence'was received from Councillor Taylor.' It' was arranged with'the Hutt County Council for the crushing of 3.00 yards of road metal at Ngahauranga and 300 at Pa'ramata.: ■■....' '-.-;.,■■ -■■: '. • .."' .;
In response to a communication from the National Efficiency Board, the council decided to give every assistance in its power to the board. 1 It,was also decided to prepare a report in accordance with sections a, b, c, and d of the circular sent out by the board. , ;■', ■ The Health Department wrote, notifying the . council of two cases,. of diph--1 theria and four cases 'of scarlet fever the county.. . ..,'.,', .'■.. A letter was received . from the Eketa'huna County Council -forwarding a copy !of resolution: "That the Government be requested to erect cool storage at the ■four main centres, so as to be able to t store surplus of produce whilst it is | awaiting the steamers from Home." The letter was received. A resolution from the Waitara County Council advocating the cultivation of every piece of suitable ground, and so guard against a possible shortage," was also received. Proceedings are to be taken against persons found removing gravel from the Hutt Valley Road Rescerve. Accounts, amounting to' £364 8s Ud were.passed for payment. The general fund of the . county shows a credit balance of £409 12s Id.
