TRADE IN HIDES
A CHECK ON EXCESSIVE EX-
PORTS.
(Received April 13, 9 a.m.)
MELBOURNE, This Day.
A regulation controlling the trade in hide* has been gazetted. It compels tanners to make available up to 75 per cent, of their output for .local reqtiirements. The Federal Premier (Mr. Hughes) is negotiating with the Imperial authorities to secure freight for /export of the surplus.
it is understood that the regulation was issued on account of certain tanners, attracted by the high prices abroad, attempting to export the whole of their output, without regard to local requirements.
