She is at present in the shipwright's hands at Lyttelton, and has been insulated. It is proposed to fit her up with a new 100 h.p. auxiliary engine. The Morning Light will shortly be placed on the Slip for cleaning and overhaul, and' will be ready to take up her new work in about two months THE KAMO'S NEW MOVEMENTS Consequent upon the closing down of the Greymouth mines the Kamo, which has been in Wellington for some days past, has been fixed to go from here to Lyttelton and Dun- ' edin with general cargo. Her subsequent movements have not yet been disclosed. • The Kamo will leave for the South to-morrow .;.; ; HOUTO FROM DUNEDIN The departure of the schooner Houto from Duneflin for Wellington has been postponed until to-night or to-morrow morning. She will consequently noti arrive here until Monday or Tuesday, and after discharge will return to Dunedin to have a set of oil engines installed WEAR AND TEAR OF CHAINS _,«^- ■'■' As illustrating the wear and tear of the sea upon even heavy chains, the following item from the report of the engineer to the Lyttelton Harbour Board may be cited:—"The lighted and whistling buoy at the harbour entrance was brought in ■ for cleaning and painting, and was replaced with filled gas cylinders on the 3rd March. As the mooring chain showed sign's of wear at the point where it leaves the ground and chafes on itself by the ' rise and fall of the waves, 20ft of the chain was cut out and replaced." This chain was/ originally 1J inches in diameter in June, 1914, and it had been reduced to three-tpiarters of an inch in thickness in two years and nine months . PERSONAL Mr. J. G. Seed, chief engineer of the Monowai, has come ashore on holiday, and has been replaced by Mr. O. W. Dillner from Auckland s ' Mr. E. A. Eva, manager of the Union Company at Suva, is at present visiting the South Island Mr. T. W. Inkster has signed on the Komata as third officer Mr. F. E. Naylor, mate of the Waverley, has come ashore, and Mr. G. B. Brown, who has- been acting as pilot at Patea, has rejoined the vessel as mate The Kennedy, which left Wellington for Picton to-day, is to load sheep at the latter port for Wanganui. From Wanganui the vessel will return to Picton, whence she will corns to Wellington, being due here on Sunday
The Mapourika left Greymouth at midnight for Westport, Nelson, and Wellington, and is doe in here to-morrow
Carrying cargo for Dunedin and Wellington the Kini sailed from Bluff at 5 o'clock last night. She Is due here on Sunday
The Himitangi, which is undergoing overhaul at the Queen's Wharf, has had her fun^ nel removed
The Te Anau "is undergoing her annual overhaul at Port Chalmers. On completion of the work the Te Anau is to load at Dunedin, Bluff, and Oamaru for Napier, Gisborne, and Auckland
The Corinna is not expected at Wellington till to-morrow from New Plymouth. There is a possibility of her omitting tho usual call here
The Union Company advise that the Karu will leave Wellington for New Plymouth on Monday next
